Harmonic was, and always will be, my humble and posthumous homage to the greatest bass player of my generation: Jaco, whom I met all too briefly back in 1986. At the piece draws to a close, I added a single ultra-harmonic and left it to decay alone into silence. How desolate is that? It feels almost as though Jaco returned briefly to offer one final sigh in reflection of our loss. Had I been there at the end, I would have picked him up and embraced him for his beautiful contribution to music and for the significance that a single note can carry at the best of times, in the best of places.
